A truly lovely day
I ran beside the river
‘til I tripped upon a log
and fell into the water
as murky as a bog
He threw me off the bus
said that I smelled bad
couldn’t get a taxi
a dime was all I had
So I walked on home alone
in the pouring rain and cold
shivering and shaking
I’ll surely catch a cold
Then the boss called and fired me
‘you’ve had your final warning
the second time this week you’re late
and it’s only Monday morning’
In the letter box I found
a load of bills I have to pay
but otherwise today has been
a truly lovely day
