Elsie's mind

I hear the lonely church bell shout
the old clock waves it’s arms about
the lighthouse scans the sea in doubt
so trust me
the trombone slides into the sea
the preacher turns to wave at me
and the wizened judge has set them free
to bust me?

Now the steam engine’s come off its track
it’s a major crisis and that’s a fact
coz the people, they have no way back
ya know it
and the farmer’s down upon his knee
but no one listens to his plea
and the crop he reaped, there’s no way he
can sow it

Elsie’s mind has come apart
while Alice plays the queen of hearts
then I just wake up with a start
believe me
tango dressed in silk and lace
across the sky at a frantic pace
then the door slams in his face
it grieves me
