Tennis girl
Martin Elliot
Described by some as "one of the sexiest posters ever made" and by others as "merely soft porn", this photo was a phenomenal success for Martin Elliot when Athena stores published it, first as part of a calendar and later as a poster. Taken at Birmingham University, it shows his then girlfriend wearing tennis gear and carrying a borrowed racquet and nobody really cared that she didn't even know how to play tennis.
Millions of posters were sold in the summer of 1978 and millions more have been sold worldwide since then.
The photograph has been parodied many times using some famous named models including Anna Kournikova, on the cover of a tennis magazine, and Kylie Minogue, on the cover of GQ magazine, and even 1987 Wimbledon men's champion, Pat Cash
In 2008 a limited edition canvas print, signed by the photographer, could be bought for £300 sterling.
Martin Elliot is quoted as saying he got bored with taking pictures and no longer does so.
