'I'll bet all the people in dreams think that they exist until you wake up and then it's too late, they don't think anymore because they don't really exist' Bernie said.

'But I think' Sally said 'so I am'. 'You're not the first person to say that you know' Bernie said 'Juno says it all the time'. 'Well I have spoken to Juno a few times' Sally said slightly miffed 'and he wasn't the first either, he's not as smart as he would like you to think. Anyway, this can't be a dream because I had a dream last night, I dreamed that I was riding a unicorn and we flew all over the place. So there, you can't dream that you're dreaming, can you?'.

'I don't think this is a dream either' Bernie said quietly 'I think this is real because I also had a dream last night and it was very strange, it couldn't possibly have been real'. 'Oh, do tell me about it' Sally asked and Bernie related his dream to her, and it certainly was a strange dream

'While sitting on the garden shed
I thought I saw a hare
but then as I got out of bed
I found it wasn't there
and in it's place I saw instead
a circle in a square

So I went and got a kitchen fork
to poke the circle out
but as I did I heard it talk
the square began to shout
so I poked it with a wooden cork
and wiggled it about

Then I saw the bathroom light
chewing on a mop
I said ''that isn't very bright
you really ought to stop
I think it is an awful sight''
and it went out with a pop

And in the darkness I could trace
a trumpet and a flute
the trumpet said ''I like your face
you're really very cute''
and the flute said with a warm embrace
''won't you take off your mute?'' '

'That certainly is a strange dream' Sally agreed 'Perhaps you're right, perhaps this is real, although I'm not sure, this is all a bit strange too'.

Just then Milt strode into the clearing where Sally and Bernie were talking 'Have you seen my mother?' he asked. 'Why don't you go to the top of the hill' Bernie said 'and look down over the forest? Your mother will be the one whose head is sticking up out of the trees and she'll see you up there and come and find you'. 'Oh, what a good idea' Milt said excitedly, and he loped off.

'Poor old Milt' said Bernie 'he's been looking for his mother for about a week now, you'd think he was big enough to look after himself, he sure is tall enough'. Sally couldn't bring herself to tell him that she was the cause of Milt's anguish, she felt very guilty about the whole affair so instead she asked if Bernie knew Herta but he didn't.

Just then Sally and Bernie heard an enormous roar that filled the air and was followed by the flapping of a million wings as all the birds took flight and the chattering of monkeys as they scampered higher up the trees.
